What is Zelligram AI?
Zelligram AI is an AI-powered writing toolkit built directly into the Zelligram editor for non-profit organizations. It connects to advanced AI models (OpenAI GPT or Anthropic Claude) and lets you transform, translate, summarize, and improve your content without ever leaving the page editor.
You don’t need to open a separate AI tool, copy-paste text, or learn any prompting techniques. The AI actions are available right inside your content blocks — just click and choose what you need.
What Can Zelligram AI Do?
Rewrite and transform paragraph text
Select any Paragraph block and look for the AI sparkle icon (✦) in the block toolbar. Click it to see a dropdown with the following actions:
- Generate a Draft — Creates a new version of the text from scratch based on the existing content. Useful when you want a completely fresh take.
- Rephrase — Rewrites the paragraph with different wording while keeping the same meaning.
- Expand — Makes the paragraph longer by adding more detail and context.
- Shorten — Trims the paragraph down to its most essential points.
- Translate — Translates the content to English, Spanish, or Portuguese.
The same actions (Rephrase, Expand, Shorten, Translate) are also available on List Item blocks.
Rewrite headings
Select any Heading block and click the AI sparkle icon to access: Rephrase, Expand, Shorten, and Translate. The Expand action for headings is intentionally conservative — it will keep the result concise and not make it excessively longer.
Generate alt text for images
Select any Image block and click the AI sparkle icon to run Generate Alt Text. The AI will analyze the image and suggest a descriptive, accessibility-friendly alt text. You’ll see a preview with the character count before it’s applied.
Generate a post excerpt
In the post Settings sidebar (right panel), scroll down to the Excerpt section. You’ll find a “Generate excerpt” button below the text area. Click it and the AI will read your full post content and title, then write a concise 25–55 word summary. Review it in the preview modal and click Accept to apply it.
How to Use an AI Action — Step by Step
- Click on the Paragraph, Heading, List Item, or Image block you want to work on.
- Look for the AI sparkle icon (✦) in the block toolbar at the top of the block.
- Click the icon to open the actions dropdown and choose the action you want.
- Wait a moment while the AI generates a result. A preview modal will appear showing the suggested text.
- Review the suggestion. Click Accept to replace your content, or Cancel to discard it and keep your original text.
Tip: You can select multiple paragraph blocks at once before clicking the AI icon to transform them all together in a single action.
Monitoring Your AI Usage
Every AI action consumes a small number of tokens (units of text processed by the AI). Your Zelligram account has a monthly token quota — a limit on how many tokens can be used per month across the site.
You can check your current usage at any time on the WordPress Dashboard. Look for the “AI Toolkit Usage & Quota” widget, which shows:
- Your monthly token quota
- Tokens used so far this month
- Remaining tokens
- A progress bar that turns yellow when you reach 70% and red at 90%
Usage resets automatically at the start of each month.
Tips & Best Practices
- Always review before accepting. The AI preview modal is there for a reason — read the suggestion carefully. AI can miss context, tone, or specific details about your organization. Think of it as a first draft, not a final copy.
- Use “Rephrase” to fix awkward writing. If a sentence feels clunky or unclear, Rephrase is the quickest way to get a cleaner version without rewriting from scratch.
- Use “Shorten” for long-winded paragraphs. If you’ve written a dense block of text, Shorten helps distil it to what matters most — useful for landing pages and donation appeals where clarity wins.
- Use “Translate” for multilingual content. If your organization serves communities in Spanish or Portuguese, you can quickly create translated versions of your pages.
- Generate alt text for all important images. Alt text improves accessibility for screen-reader users and helps with search engine visibility — use the AI alt text generator on every meaningful image on your site.
- Generate excerpts for every post. A well-written excerpt improves how your posts appear in search results, social media previews, and email newsletters.
- Be mindful of your token quota. Large blocks of text and multiple transformations in quick succession consume more tokens. If you’re close to your monthly limit, prioritize the most important content first.
